Jobless diamond polisher's wife starts gambling den, arrested

In a dramatic revelation, Varachha police on Tuesday evening raid a gambling den, which as allegedly run by wife of an jobless diamond
Polisher, and under arrest 10 persons. Those arrested include the woman Daksha Patel, five other women and four men.

Interestingly, this den was wholly for women gamblers. Other women were also arrested during the raid and cash of Rs 19,430 was recovered from them.

She had started operating this gambling den at her house in Varun Complex on Lambe Hanuman Road, to rush over the financial disaster, since a week.

Her husband Vitthalbhai had lost his job after Diwali. Previous, he used to earn Rs 15,000 per month. But, then he was doing old jobs and earning only about Rs 2,000 - Rs 3,000 a month. The family's financial disaster became deeper with each passing day, police sources said, adding so Daksha started this den. Vitthal is said to be completely in dark about this activity.

"Daksha used to run the den when Vitthal left home around 2 pm everyday in search of job. The activity used to get wound up before 7 pm, when Vitthal returned," said police.

Daksha was in contact with few women in the area who were regular gamblers. All the women under arrest were from middle class families in the area. It was only on Tuesday that males were allowed to come for the first time, informed police.

Sources in police division informed that Daksha used to earn around Rs 500 everyday from this gambling activity.
